November monthly focus: Vocational skills centre update

The vocational skills centre (VSC) is currently planning apprenticeship programmes at level 2 and level 3 for the new year, in both healthcare and business admin. The courses will begin in January and applications are welcome now. Application forms are available from the VLE (virtual learning environment) or direct from the VSC.

The apprenticeships are made up of three core elements:

  • health or business award
  • employment, personal and learning skills
  • functional skills (English and maths).

The aim is to provide you with a nationally recognised qualification that reflects the level of work you undertake in your daily role.

The Open University course for pre-registration nursing, supported by the Trust, is holding an open information morning on 6 November, 9.30am, at the Novotel Hotel, Southampton. Anyone considering becoming an adult nurse is welcome to attend. Please register at r02-hsc@open.ac.uk.

We have also successfully recruited 14 members of staff to the foundation degree programme starting in January 2014. This is a joint initiative with Southampton Solent University.

If you have any questions, or would like further information on any of the above, please contact vocationalskills@uhs.nhs.uk or call ext 6989.
