Hospital to hospital transfer

Information for patients from Jersey, travelling from hospital to hospital

  • The Liaison Sister will contact the Bed Manager at Jersey General Hospital to ensure the bed is available and has been booked before any travel arrangements have been made.
  • If you are being returned to hospital in Jersey under normal circumstances, you will need a nurse escort.
  • It is the responsibility of the Ward/Area where you have been hospitalised to provide the escort.
  • When your escort has been decided, the Liaison Team will then be able to book the flights/boat travel for both the patient and your escort. (Jersey States will pay for your escort's travel). Your escort will be provided with a letter and travel information.
  • If you are unable to fly, the return journey can be made by boat, as there are no restrictions on boat travel.
  • If the medical team do not feel an escort is required, the medical team in Jersey must be informed of this decision and the reason no escort is deemed necessary will be written in your notes. The Liaison Sister will sign the notes and add any comment if necessary to indicate that she has seen the reason given.
