Cardiac intensive care unit
Our cardiac intensive care unit looks after people who are seriously ill with heart or lung problems, and is one of only a handful of dedicated cardiac intensive care units in the country. It has been purpose-built and specially designed for intensive care patients. As a centre of excellence, we treat patients from the Wessex region and beyond.
We usually look after patients who have just come out of the operating theatre - up to eight a day.
Our 15-bed unit is close to the Wessex Cardiac Unit's state-of-the-art catheter labs, operating theatres and dedicated cardiac MRI scanner.
You'll have one-to-one care from a specialist nurse, while our team including consultants, nurses, physiotherapists, dietitians, and administrative staff all work together to deliver a high level of care.
We work to get you well and stable enough so to be moved to a less intensive care environment, such as a high dependency unit or a hospital ward.
