cardiac isolation room

Cardiac Surgery is based in the Trust's new North Wing, a £60m new building that houses the Wessex Cardiac Unit – including cutting edge catheter labs, a specialist cardiac intensive care unit and dedicated cardiac scanner.

The department benefits from a state-of-the-art 12-bed cardiac intensive care unit, purpose-built to care for patients with serious heart conditions. Find out more about Cardiac Intensive Care.

There are two and half recently refurbished theatres dedicated to Cardiac Surgery, each boasting the very latest surgical equipment.

There are also three wards, with a total of 42 beds, for patients recovering from or waiting for cardiac surgery.

All the wards (E2, E3 and E4) are due to be redesigned and refurbished to create two dedicated cardiac surgery wards with 42 beds, including 10 side rooms. The aim is to eventually have 50 per cent of patients in single rooms.
