Why choose us
Equipment
Southampton's Non-Invasive Cardiology unit is one of the largest cardiac diagnostic units in the UK and has some of the most advanced diagnostic equipment.
Its 3D echo machine enables the department to carrying out original medical research. When used in a clinical setting, it allows the doctors to diagnose more accurately and quickly – which means better and more effective treatments for the patient.
The unit's bank of state-of-the-art echo machines means it can see up to 18,000 patients a year with suspected cardiac complaints. This builds up the expertise of both the technicians operating the equipment and the consultants looking at the results.
Specialist cardiac services
Southampton is renowned for its cardiac services for children and young adults with congenital heart disease, and the Non-Invasive Cardiology unit plays a key role in this – using the most appropriate diagnostic equipment to identify defects in children.
The Wessex Cardiac Unit is now one of the Trust's key defining services – which means it is being developed into a global centre of excellence treating more and more patients from outside the Wessex area.
