Complex epilepsy service

We assess and manage people with complex epilepsy, as well as those who have been referred to us after having a suspected first seizure. We may also see you if you are being assessed for epilepsy surgery.

As part of a regional neurosciences centre, we are able to provide 24 hour inpatient monitoring on the neuromedical wards or, when necessary, in the 13 bedded neuro-intensive care unit. Our facilities also include a video-telemetry suite.

If you are being treated by us, this will be carried out in close liaison with your GP to ensure continuity of care. You will have regular reviews with the team until your seizures have become more manageable or stopped.

We have a large library of information in various formats that you can borrow, please contact us to find out more.

Service development

We regularly review our service against national guidelines. The results have been used to develop the service, including setting up a local support group, improving written information and providing the telephone helpline to aid speed of access to the service. As a teaching hospital, we regularly participate in research projects in the field of epilepsy.
