Breast imaging

The Southampton Breast Imaging Unit provides imaging for women invited for routine breast screening and those sent by their doctor because of breast problems or concerns.

The service is housed in a specially-designed and purpose-built new unit at Southampton's Princess Anne Hospital|. We also have a mobile unit to which you may be invited for routine breast screening|.

The Southampton and Salisbury breast screening programme has a consistently high cancer detection rate and exceeds most national standards.

We provide:

Regular invitations for routine breast screening to more than 75,000 women across our region
Imaging and care for patients with symptoms, for both women and men in the Southampton area – approximately 5,000 mammograms and 5,000 ultrasounds each year
Routine follow-up screening service for patients previously diagnosed with breast cancer, with a family history or referral from the genetics clinic, who are at high risk of breast cancer
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) service for the Wessex region and the Channel Islands
Direct referrals to our own multi-disciplinary breast service team for patients requiring treatment and support
