Why choose us
The Southampton and Salisbury Breast Screening Programme covers an area from Hampshire to Wiltshire, and started in July 1988 screening a population of 45,000 women aged between 50 and 64. As specialist expertise has developed, so the numbers of women seen by the unit have increased.
In 2005, the breast screening service merged with Southampton's symptomatic breast imaging service to form the Breast Imaging Unit, and this was based in expanded and refurbished facilities in the Royal South Hants Hospital.
As a result of the combination of services, waiting times have been reduced for women referred by their GP.
In 2007, the new facilities at the Princess Anne Hospital, designed with the help of Southampton University Hospitals' Trust's architects, include private clinic rooms and improved mammography and ultrasound suites. The unit provides lighter, brighter, more comfortable surroundings for patients as well as roomier working conditions for staff.
We see and treat large numbers of patients with breast conditions including cancer, and have close links with the multi-disciplinary breast team. We provide access to a full range of imaging investigations with rapid referral for screening assessments and symptomatic appointments.
All of our staff show a continuing commitment to achieve the highest standards, and to offer a sensitive and responsive service to all those in their care.
