Breast service
The Southampton breast service is a long-established specialist unit for the diagnosis and treatment of benign breast disorders and of breast cancer.
Breast services are based at the Princess Anne Hospital|. Outpatients are generally seen and assessed in the outpatient suite and breast imaging| unit on E level and we also have a mobile breast screening unit.
Most operations take place at the Princess Anne Hospital although patients with complex medical problems sometimes undergo surgery across the road at Southampton General Hospital|.
Inpatients are cared for on the Bramshaw short stay ward on H level, and occasionally on wards at Southampton General Hospital.
Information on PIP implants
Patients of University Hospitals Southampton NHS Foundation Trust can be reassured that the French PIP breast implant, which has been the subject of recent media coverage, has never been used in operations carried out by the Trust.
Any woman who has had a PIP implant elsewhere and has concerns should in the first instance contact the clinic who carried out their procedure. If they have any health concerns they should speak with their GP.
Advice regarding this issue is available on the Department of Health website|.
Additionally the college of surgeons has now produced advice to GPs wishing to refer such patients. |
