Care closer to home

We have a well established shared care system with our local district general hospitals at Poole, Dorchester, Salisbury, Isle of Wight, Portsmouth, Basingstoke, Chichester, Guernsey and Jersey. Shared care allows your child to receive some treatment and care nearer to home.

Your consultant at Piam Brown Unit remains responsible for your child's care throughout their treatment and follow up. At each shared care unit, there is a named consultant and link nurse for the care of children with cancer. The children's community teams will come to see you at home to do blood tests and give support. The role of the Paediatric Oncology Outreach Team (POON|) is vital in the shared care system, as they will be the people who will liaise with health care professionals from the Piam Brown team and the community team, to ensure continuity of care.
