Family support at the Piam Brown unit

The Paediatric Oncology Outreach Team| (POOT) team are also the palliative care team for the Piam Brown Unit. They liaise with local community teams to coordinate a care package which is individual to each child and family at end of life. Bereavement care for the family is offered by the team and social work teams after the death of a child.

Support to the siblings of patients are also offered. The play team can spend time with them, talking them through what is happening to their brother or sister, and there is a sibling group that they can join. It is important that siblings are included as much as possible as they can often feel left out.
