Meet the team

Our team is made up of various people who all work together to provide expert care and support to young people and their families.

Consultants

Consultants are the senior doctors who are in overall charge of a patient’s care. Along with the other doctors, they work to look after the patients on the unit. Different consultants specialise in different types of cancer, and treatment.

Clinical nurse specialists

Clinical nurse specialists link with the team to look after patients on the unit. They are often the key workers who co-ordinate patient care, and act as the main point of contact for patients within the hospital.

Other specialist staff

Patients on the unit may also get help from dieticians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists or a speech and language therapists during their treatment.

The multidisciplinary team

This team is made up of various members of the teenage and young adult cancer care team. They meet weekly to discuss patients at the time of diagnosis, and at other stages of treatment as needed.

All patients should be discussed at the meeting, no matter which hospital they are in. The team members are experts in cancer in young people, and together with each patient’s consultant they agree on the most appropriate plan for treatment and care, including where treatment can take place.
