Dr Cathy Hill

Dr Cathy Hill, consultant in children's sleep medicine

Dr Hill is an associate professor of child health at the University of Southampton and honorary consultant in paediatric sleep medicine. She has worked in the field of children’s sleep medicine since 1995 and has been researching children’s sleep disorders since 2004.

Hazel Evans

Dr Hazel Evans, consultant respiratory paediatrician

Dr Evans leads the children's sleep disorder breathing and home mechanical ventilation service for the South Central region. She works with patients with a wide range of disorders. Dr Evans is actively involved in several research projects, in particular relating to sleep disordered breathing in infants and children with Down syndrome.

Dr Andrea Whitney

Dr Andrea Whitney, paediatric neurologist

Dr Whitney trained at the Melbourne Children’s Hospital and was epilepsy fellow at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Andrea has a particular interest in teaching and runs regional epilepsy training days.

Rachel Langley

Dr Rachel Langley, clinical psychologist

Dr Langley's background is in child and adolescent mental health and she's worked in the child psychology team since 2009. Dr Langley works with inpatients and their families, primarily those in intensive care and with complex respiratory problems, and with outpatients through the sleep disorder service. Her main interests are anxiety around sleep and working with trauma.


Sarah Matthews

Dr Sarah Matthews, clinical psychologist

For the past five years Dr Matthews has been working with young people and their families in hospital and in the community. She's part of the children's psychology department and mainly works in the outpatient department supporting families and young people with a range of problems. Dr Matthew's main interest areas are children's sleep disorders and medically unexplained symptoms.


Jo McCubbin

Jo McCubbin, clinical nurse specialist

Jo supports Dr Hill and Dr Whitney during the diagnosis and treatment of children with rare excessive sleepiness disorders. Jo offers educational support to children, young people, their parents and family members, to help them learn to manage their condition. She also works with their schools to provide education around the condition and put in place an education and healthcare plan to make sure the child or young person has the best environment and conditions to help them to learn and achieve.


Karen Curtain

Karen Curtain, children's sleep practitioner

Karen's main role is to support sleep clinics and work with families to create and implement sleep management programmes that are effective in helping them manage their child’s behavioural sleep difficulties. Karen also manages the actigraphy diagnostic service.


Jenni Bumstead

Jenni Bumstead, children's sleep practitioner

Jenni’s main role in the service is to create individualised sleep management programmes and support families to implement these programmes so as to improve their children’s sleep difficulties. She also supports in sleep assessment clinics and working alongside other team members during the sleep assessment and information days for parents.
