Education and nursing

‘Investment in staff development and staff potential is key to delivering service change and new ways of working.  It will directly support the aims of building a learning environment.... promoting wider goals for lifelong learning’. (Department of Health Autumn 2001 Update)

Education and development of all PICU nursing staff is seen as the responsibility of the entire team, coordinated and facilitated by the Senior Sister – Education Lead and Lecturer/Practitioner. Through training needs analysis, specific training and education programmes are developed for individual nursing bands in order to meet the recommendations of government legislation regarding the care of critically ill children and their families.
