Earmould assessment

Audiology earmould impression:An earmould assessment appointment may take up to 30 minutes.

You will usually come to an earmould assessment appointment because the Ear, Nose and Throad (ENT) department has asked us to provide you with a hearing aid.

At this appointment we will explain the results of your hearing test to you and discuss with you which ear should have the hearing aid, or whether you would be best with hearing aids for both ears. This decision will depend not only on your hearing test but also on the sorts of situations in which you find you have trouble hearing.

If you are happy to proceed with hearing aid(s), we will then take an impression of one or both of your ears. The impression(s) will be used by a specialist laboratory to make your earmould(s). The earmould will fit onto the end of your hearing aid to carry the sound to your ear.

You will be offered a further appointment so that we can programme your hearing aid(s) to suit your hearing, explain to you how to operate the controls, give you a chance to practice putting the aid on, and make sure you know where to go for batteries and maintenance.
