Hearing aid fitting

Audiology - Richard inserting earmould:

A hearing aid fitting appointment may take up to 1 hour.

The audiologist will check that the earmould fits into your ear comfortably.

If it doesn't, he or she will need to take a few minutes to trim the mould down to the right size. This is quite common, especially if your ear canal is not completely straight.

The audiologist will select a hearing aid that covers the power range appropriate for your hearing, and will adjust the internal settings of the hearing aid according to your hearing test.

Please tell the audiologist if there is anything you don't like about the sound you are getting from the hearing aid. It might need some adjustments, or you may just need to give yourself some time to get used to the new sound.

The audiologist will show you how to work the hearing aid and look after it, and will give you an opportunity to practice putting it into your ear. You will be given a stock of spare batteries and information on our hearing aid maintenance service (including battery supply).

The aid will not give you perfect hearing but it should help to make your life easier. You will need some time to get used to wearing it in your home environment. It can take the brain a couple of months to "retune" itself to the new sound. Most people will not need to see us again for several years but we are here if you need us!
