Hearing therapy
A hearing therapy appointment will last approximately one hour.
At your hearing therapy appointment, you can discuss your hearing or tinnitus problems and the best way to address them.
If you have been referred for tinnitus, the therapist will give you advice on managing this and make you aware of things that you can do to help yourself. You may be fitted with a white noise generator, or the therapist may arrange for you to have a hearing aid fitted if this would be more suitable.
If you have been referred for hearing problems, the therapist will explain the hearing test results to you. You can decide together what your best options are and the therapist can then arrange the next step. She will also give you advice on how to manage particular situations where your hearing loss is causing difficulties, and show you how to use communication skills and hearing tactics.
Sometimes the referral might be for problems relating to both hearing loss and tinnitus. The therapist will be help you to understand what is available to you and refer you on to the appropriate team.
If necessary, you will see the therapist more than once so that she can follow your progress and continue to give advice on adjustment and management of your particular situation.
