What happens when I come in?

If you are on a ward and your condition suddenly deteriorates, nursing staff, ward staff or a physiotherapist will alert the Outreach Team.

When the Outreach nurse arrives on the ward, he or she will introduce themselves to you. They will explain what they are doing to you and any relatives with you.

They will give you a thorough assessment, which may include taking your temperature, blood pressure, checking your heart rate and looking at your respiratory rate.

They may give you treatment on the ward, or they may decide, in consultation with the intensive care team, that you need to be admitted to Intensive Care.

If that is the case, the nurse will stay with you until you are settled in on the unit. The Outreach Team member will answer any questions you or your family may have.
