What we do

The Outreach team provide emergency cover to all areas of the Trust apart from Neuro and Cardiac.

If they receive a call to attend a patient, they may have to:

  • Give respiratory support (oxygen) to help the patient breathe
  • Give fluids to the patient
  • Start critical care treatment on the ward until the patient can be move to Intensive Care or a High Dependency Unit
  • Speak to doctors about escalating the patient's care
  • Assist with transferring acutely ill patients for scans or other diagnosis/treatment

The idea is that treating patients at the moment they become seriously ill will avoid further deterioration in their condition.

They provide critical care cover to the whole Trust from Monday to Friday, from 7am until 9pm, as well as weekend nights – and are looking at developing 24 hour cover.

The team has an excellent reputation for their advanced clinical skills, and provide valuable advice to ward staff and doctors. They are recognised throughout the Trust and nationally for their advanced clinical skills.
