We provide a resuscitation service for the up to nine multi-disciplinary resuscitation teams within the Trust, including Southampton General Hospital and Princess Anne Hospital.
Our team responds to emergency calls if a patient suddenly collapses, or their condition deteriorates. We get around 30 calls a week.
As well as providing expert support in these situations, we provide leadership and education during and after the event. This includes making sure we're up to date with national standards for resuscitation techniques. We train medical and nursing staff, allied health professionals (such as physiotherpists) and non-professional employees (such as portering staff) within the Trust. We also run regional training course in resuscitation techniques for adults and children, for other health professionals.
We're also responsible for checking the cardiac arrest equipment around the Trust - every area has a resuscitation trolley, meaning there are about 200.
Another part of our role is auditing and monitoring resuscitation around the Trust, to help us to continue to improve the care we provide. This has also shown the our team has increased survival rates from cardiac arrest, compared to other large hospitals.
