Family support at the Eye Unit
When a child is diagnosed with an eye condition, parents and children often want to ask lots of questions and discuss their concerns. Southampton's Eye Unit has a dedicated paediatric family support service (PFSS) enabling parents and children to talk in depth with an eye specialist and get additional information and support.
Most families are referred to the PFSS from their consultants, but if you would like to make use of the service please tell a member of the Eye Unit staff. Arrangements for an appointment will then be made with you directly.
The service is currently supporting about 128 families, with around 35 new families referred to us each year. Most of the patients we see are babies but the service is also open to older children, who can join in the discussion with their family.

The paediatric family support service is located in the orthoptic department of the eye unit at Southampton General Hospital. It is open 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. You can telephone us on 023 8120 4789.
