Macular clinics
Macular (small area at centre of retina) clinics are to monitor the progress of patients who have had operations or who have age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
Everybody who attends these clinics will need eyedrops so that the back of the eye can be examined.
DO NOT drive yourself to the hospital as the eyedrops dilate the pupils and blur the vision for a few hours. You will not be able to drive home.
AMD is where the delicate cells of the macular become damaged and stop working causing loss of central vision.
Where possible patients with AMD will be seen in the morning and given any treatment in the afternoon.
