The eye unit is housed in a purpose-built, modern building on the site of Southampton General Hospital.
In addition to our team of experienced consultants, specialist ophthalmic nurses with formal ophthalmic training and experience look after and treat a wide range of conditions.
Much of our equipment and machinery is state-of-the-art. Our orthoptics department has six specially-designed clinic rooms offering modern equipment including new Logmar computerised vision testing charts, and is one of only a few centres in the UK to offer an electrodiagnostic service which explores patients' vision potential.
Our eye surgery and inpatient service has four dedicated single rooms for inpatient care.
Our facilities for children include separate clinic rooms to ensure privacy while your child is tested, and there is a dedicated children's play area and easy access to baby changing facilities in the main outpatient department.
We are also proud to have a paediatric family support service (PFSS). The service gives parents and families the extra support and information they need when their child is diagnosed with a serious eye condition.
The eye unit also prides itself on the quality of teaching it provides to student nurses and newly-qualified nursing staff.
