Our facilities

The eye unit is housed in a purpose-built, modern building on the site of Southampton General Hospital.

In addition to our team of experienced consultants, specialist ophthalmic nurses with formal ophthalmic training and experience look after and treat a wide range of conditions.

Much of our equipment and machinery is state-of-the-art. Our orthoptics| department has six specially-designed clinic rooms offering modern equipment including new Logmar computerised vision testing charts, and is one of only a few centres in the UK to offer an electrodiagnostic service which explores patients' vision potential.

Our eye surgery and inpatient service| have four decidated single rooms which for inpatient care.

Our facilities for children| include separate clinic rooms to ensure privacy while your child is tested, and there is a dedicated children's play area and easy access to baby changing facilities in the main outpatient department.

We are also proud to have a paediatric family support service| (PFSS). The service gives parents and families the extra support and information they need when their child is diagnosed with a serious eye condition.

The eye unit also prides itself on the quality of teaching it provides to student nurses and newly-qualified nursing staff.
