Pharmacy aseptic service

Parenteral nutrition requires extremely careful preparation under sterile conditions, to ensure it safely meets the patient’s exact needs. In Southampton all parenteral nutrition (PN) used throughout the Trust is prepared by the pharmacy aseptic service, a team of highly trained technical staff and specialist pharmacists. The service uses state of the art clean-room facilities to prepare PN and a range of other injectable medicines. Our facilities were refurbished in 2011 to meet the highest standards. Our patients range from premature new-born babies through children to adults with all conditions. The service is supported by our specialist quality assurance team, and receives regular external inspections from expert auditors.

Senior clinical and technical staff in the aseptic service are recognised nationally as leaders in their field, and have roles leading and contributing to a number of national groups and courses.
