Allergy and immunology
We're the largest allergy and immunology centre outside of London, and one of only six units in the country providing a full service from diagnosis to treatment for children and adults.
As a regional centre of excellence, we see patients from a wide area including Hampshire, Wiltshire, Dorset, West Sussex, parts of Berkshire, the Isle of Wight and the Falkland Islands.
We see around 3000 patients a year, and investigate, diagnose and treat all major allergic and immunological disorders which are caused by your immune system being under or over active.
We'll usually see you as an outpatient, but work closely with locals hospitals too. Members of our team also lead the diagnostic laboratories for allergy and immune disorders.
Our team plays an important role in education for community health providers, locally and nationally. We teach on the University of Southampton MSc programme in allergy, and on locally-organised update courses in allergy.
We also contribute to research, and have been involved in the early development of new drugs and drug trials.
The unit is divided into two areas, allergy and immunology for adults and allergy and immunology for children.
