Allergy information for young people

Young people need to be able to effectively self-manage their food allergy.

As you become more independent you need to know how to manage everyday activities| such as shopping and understanding food labelling, travel, socialising and relationships.

You also need to know how best to avoid trigger allergens (the things that give you an allergic reaction) and how to manage your medication|. If you are worried about when and how to use your medicines, make sure you speak to the allergy nurses at your next clinic appointment.

When you leave the care of the children's allergy service your care can be taken over by your GP or you may be referred to the adult allergy service|.

You might find it helpful to read the experience of another young person with food allergy| and we'd love you to send us your own story|.
