Changes in mood

Some previous intensive care patients comment on their changing moods, being a little down, depressed or snapping easily at their relatives or friends. These are normal reactions after being very ill and they will subside with time.

It may take a while for you, your family and friends to come to terms with what has happened to you. It may have been a very difficult time for everyone involved, but discussing your experiences will help you all understand what has happened and assist in your recovery. You may wish to talk to someone other than family or friends. The nurses and doctors on the ward will be able to help, or you can contact the ICU follow-up sister.
