Support group: life after intensive care
You are warmly invited (with your family or friends) to join us at a meeting of the support group for those who have been patients in Southampton’s general intensive care unit (GICU).
The support group meetings are an opportunity for you to have a coffee and a chat with people who have also experienced intensive care. It is hoped that these non-medical meetings will allow you to share your experiences, with other former patients and their families, who are at different stages of recovery. In addition the group can offer educational opportunities with access to ICU staff and other healthcare professionals who can answer questions and offer additional advice and support.
The group meet on the first Tuesday of every month (although there is no obligation to attend every meeting or to stay for the whole session). The group meetings are organised, and run, through a partnership between GICU staff and former patients. It is very much the intention that the support group is led by its members and that this will be reflected in the format and content of the meetings as the group develops.
The meetings take place on the first Tuesday of each month, 7 to 8.30pm.
