Broadlands birth centre
Broadlands Birth Centre is based in the Princess Anne Hospital. It is on a different floor to the obstetrician-led unit and is suitable for women wishing to have a natural birth in a home-like, atmosphere.
It is a midwife-led unit and is suitable for women with no complications in pregnancy or labour. You would need to transfer to the nearby obstetrician-led unit| if a problem were to develop, or if you needed to have an epidural. There are four birth rooms. These rooms provide a relaxed environment for women and their partners. In addition, there are two birthing pools that can be used during labour and/or birth.
In 2009, 60% of women who came here to labour and birth, actually went on to have a normal birth here.
