Forceps and ventouse research project

Midwife visits mum and babyA research team at the Princess Anne Hospital are undertaking a study to investigate the use of forceps in childbirth. The aim of the study is to find out how doctors make decisions about the use of forceps or ventouse in cases when a baby can’t be delivered naturally. Data is being collected on around 30 births where ventouse or forceps are used. 

The study team are Dr Ying Cheong| and Dr Aarti Umranikar from the Princess Anne Hospital and Angela Fenwick and Rose Wiles who are researchers at the University of Southampton|.  A medical student, Elisabeth Butler is also involved with the study. Dr Jo Mountfield| is the project advisor. 

A report will be prepared on the findings and a summary of the results of the study will be available here at the end of the study.
