MRI quality assurance and safety services
The MRI physics service (part of the medical physics department) at SUHT provides a quality assurance (QA) and safety service to both internal and external clients. Three scanners in Southampton are covered as well as the MRI scanners in Winchester (Royal Hampshire County Hospital) and the Isle of Wight (St Mary’s Hospital, Newport). The QA procedure is generally carried out every three months on each of the scanners. Acceptance testing is carried once a new scanner is installed and must be satisfactorily completed before the scanner can be put into clinical use.
Patients can be referred for specialist MRI scans which MRI physics will carry out or assist with, including functional MRI.
