Acute medical care
We provide acute services for older people at Southampton General Hospital and Lymington Hospital. In addition, through the support provided by rapid response services we can care for many people in their own home.
Our acute admission unit
The acute admission unit at Southampton General Hospital can be found on level C, North Wing near the accident and emergency department. The unit provides the best care for older patients with a focus on treating acute medical problems by improving and maintaining physical and cognitive function.
After being seen in the acute admission unit, you will either be discharged back to your home or admitted to one of our wards.
Being taken into hospital is an important stage in any patient’s care and some people become weaker and have difficulty in managing their affairs after recovering from illness. Our aim is to avoid this by using an approach which includes early assessment by physiotherapists and occupational therapists.
