Why choose us
At Southampton University Hospitals Trust, due to investment in the latest ultrasound technology we are now performing fast acting effective ‘blocks’ on many patients having arm and leg surgery. The local anaesthetic ‘block’ is administered as a small injection which the majority of patients do not find uncomfortable. Patients can then have their operation awake and tend not to need strong painkillers which are often associated with unpleasant side effects. Patients who do not have a GA can also often be discharged home sooner.
Having the ability to use regional anaesthesia as the sole anaesthetic means we can now offer some people an operation for whom it would be unsafe to have a GA.
