Diagnosis and treatment
Patients may require surgery in the chest for many reasons, both for investigative procedures and for more complex operations aimed at curing disease. Most of these operations require a general anaesthetic, which is provided by our department. We are responsible for monitoring patients during their operations and in the early post-operative period.
We also employ a number of techniques to alleviate pain in the post-operative period, such as patient-controlled analgesia and local anaesthetic infusions (including epidurals).
