Muscles, joints and bones
The Trauma and Orthopaedic unit provides a comprehensive range of routine, local, and specialised services.
The unit treats patients from across Hampshire as well as many patients referred by other hospital consultants for second opinions or for treatment of complex conditions.

Patients benefit from a team of highly specialised consultants, many of whom are nationally and internationally recognised for their expertise and experience.
Consultants are supported in their work by nurses, therapists and other specialist clinical staff who are trained and are experts in their particular fields of orthopaedic care.
The unit offers two types of service: an elective service for patients with orthopaedic conditions which have developed over a period of time and a trauma service which specialises in patients who have sustained injuries as the result of accidents.
The unit plays a major role in teaching, and our teaching and our clinical effectiveness are enhanced by our work in research and development and our academic links with Southampton University.
The Trust also works closely with other hospitals and will carry out joint operations with other Trusts to ensure maximum availability of specialist skills for patients.
As well as joint replacements and revisions, the directorate carries out a comprehensive range of orthopaedic procedures, encompassing treatments for hands, wrists, elbows, shoulders, hips, knees, ankles and feet.
We are leading the way in innovative procedures which include; minimally invasive surgery, hip resurfacing and computer-navigated surgery.
Our service can be spilt into several areas:
-
Major hip and knee joint replacements and revisions
-
Hand surgery
-

-
