What happens when I come in?
Your consultant will inform you of the decision to put you on the waiting list and a pre-assessment appointment will be made for you within three weeks of this decision.
Your pre-assessment appointment will ensure we have full details about you, your condition and your current health and social status. You will be told what to expect from your surgery and how long you can expect to be in hospital.
The day of admission you will be required to contact us to check we have a confirmed bed for you and for us to check that you are fit and health and you will be told what to bring with you and where to report to.
You will usually report to our surgical admissions units - Stanley Graveson or F6 for booking in, prior to your operation, and post operation you will be transferred to one of our elective wards unless you are a day case and therefore will be discharged the same day.
Throughout the process you will be given every opportunity to ask questions and seek clarification about your procedure and your stay on the unit.
