Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit
The Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is one of 27 units in the UK providing specialised intensive care unit for patients whohave severe illnesses affecting their brain, spinal cord or peripheral nerves. The unit has a catchment population of roughly 3 million covering Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Jersey, Guernsey and parts of West Sussex, Wiltshire and Dorset. Some patients are admitted from further afield for specialised care or when a bed is not available in their area. All patients are admitted under the care of the intensive care consultants and either a consultant neurosurgeon or a consultant neurologist.
The unit is proud of its excellent, highly-trained, multidisciplinary team. Doctors, nurses, critical care technicians, physiotherapists, dieticians, chaplains and administrative staff all work together to deliver a high level of personalised care for our patients.
