Diagnosis and treatment
Patient assessments and treatments are provided to the following patient groups:
Intubated and Ventilated Patients
Multi Trauma Patients
Spinal Patients
Head Injuries
Complex Neuropathies
Neuro Paediatrics
Out patients clinics
Facial clinics
Lumbar spine clinics
Patient treatment consists of the following:
Respiratory Care – Ventilated / Non ventilated
Tracheostomy Care – Weaning / Progression
Acute Spinal injuries
Acute Rehabilitation an progression of mobility
Spasticity management
Posture management
Cognitive / Perceptual assessment and treatment
Arrangement of equipment required for discharge
Upper limb assessment and treatment including splinting
Functional assessment
Provision of aids and strategies for patient orientation
Close multi-disciplinary team approach to treatment – Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech and Language Therapy and Social Services
All patients will be seen either on the day of referral, or within 24 hours of referral. In times of staff shortage, patients may have to wait longer than this, but every effort is made to see referred patients as soon as possible.
Patients are prioritised based upon their clinical needs, with those requiring respiratory care, or first day post-surgery being seen first, followed by patients requiring assessment to ensure safe discharge.
