This is award is sponsored by the University of Southampton.

Winner - Carrie Hamilton, simulated patient lead, training and development

Carrie has developed a simulated patient scenario to assist in training ward leaders to manage difficult conversations effectively. Her enthusiasm and empathy with the attendees on the ward leaders programme has given them the confidence and skill to be able to manage poor performance and difficult situations. The scenario illustrates a thorough simulated activity and how crucial and valuable it is for ward leaders to provide positive feedback.

Runner-up - Bruce Armstrong, Emma Tabenor and Mandy Anderson, emergency department

With the imminent opening of the major trauma centre, an innovative trauma education programme has been developed and delivered as a one day programme by the emergency department team and clinical skills. This is multidisciplinary and has had attendance from nurses, health care assistants, radiographers, paramedics, operating department personnel and students. Staff have been given further knowledge and skill to enable them to function more effectively as members of the trauma team as the service develops. The model has been recognised regionally as effective and the programme has been delivered to other trusts resulting in over 250 nurses going through the programme within the region.
