Selection process

After you submit your application, the selection process is broken down into the following sections:

  1. Shortlisting
  2. Interviews
  3. Pre-employment – starting date stage

1. Shortlisting

Once the advert has closed the shortlisting will be sent over to the recruiting manager.

The recruiting manager will then have a look through your application and score this against the person specification for the role.  If you are successful you will be selected for interview.  The interview details will be sent to the HR team once this is completed.  If you have not heard anything from us within 4 weeks of your application, please presume that on that occasion you have not been successful.

Shortlisting is completed anonymously so that it is carried out fairly. This is why you will need to quote your application reference number as the recruiting manager will not know you by name.

2. Interviews

The recruiting manager will arrange the details for the interview on completion of the shortlisting and send over a request to the HR department.

The HR department will invite applicants to interview on a specific date and will ask you to ring in for a time and to confirm your attendance.

The recruiting manager will be on the interview panel, along with other employees of the Trust.  The panel will score your responses and will make a decision about whether or not you have been successful in your application for the position.  They will contact you either way to confirm this and HR will also confirm once we have the interview pack.

The recruiting manager then sends down the completed interview pack to the HR department to action.

3. Pre-employment – starting date stage

On receipt of the interview pack from the recruiting manager, the HR department will issue a conditional offer letter.  We will send you an offer pack which will include the following:

  • Offer Letter
  • Information sheet for successful applicants
  • Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) application form
  • CRB Guidance booklet
  • Pensions booklet and SD502 opt out form
  • New starter information sheet
  • P46
  • Occupational health questionnaire

All offers of employment are subject to the Trust receiving satisfactory pre-employment checks.

You will be required to read through the various pieces of information and contact the team to arrange a pre-employment appointment with us, where we will assist you in completion of the forms and also take the various ID you would have been asked to bring in.

From here, we will send off your CRB application form and record the information we have from you so far.  Please note: if you will be having patient contact you will be required to complete the full check form and arrange an appointment with them directly. Contact details will be on the form.

When we generate your offer pack, we will also be requesting your references.  It is important you provide sufficient contact details for your referees and that they cover 3 years worth of referencing history.  Although HR will chase the references as much as possible, it is also your responsibility to ensure they are aware of the reference request coming and that they complete this as soon as possible.

Please confirm to us your acceptance of the position by sending in an acceptance letter.

Once we have received all of your pre-employment checks (which also include confirmation of any registration that is essential to the role) and the line manager has approved the checks, a start date will be arranged between yourself and your line manager.

Under no circumstances can you start with any of your pre-employment checks pending.

Your line manager will inform HR of the start date and HR will input all of your details onto the system in order for you to get paid.

Your contract will be generated in the first 6 weeks of employment.
