By car

Parking on site is extremely limited and, whilst we operate park and ride schemes, we currently still have more staff than we have parking spaces. We’re therefore unlikely to be able to offer parking to any new employees unless you meet one of the following criteria:

  • staff working after 10pm at night or starting or leaving before 6am each morning
  • staff who are required to regularly travel between sites at least three times per week
  • on call staff who must be on-site within 30 minutes (category A on call)
  • blue badge holders
  • posts which are currently identified as difficult to recruit
  • other exceptions, on a case by case basis, for example consultants with outreach clinics.

For more information on parking you can contact the Travelwise team

Parking is a key priority for the Trust and we’re currently looking at a range of opportunities to help improve the parking provision for both staff and visitors. The good news is that, because the hospital sits within a busy urban area, it has fantastic links to public transport. We’ve provided information on the bus and train services available.

By rail

If you’d prefer to catch a train to and from Southampton, you’ll find several connecting bus services that will take you from Southampton Central Station to the hospital and back again. Alternatively a taxi from the station to the hospital will cost around £10.

For the latest information visit the following websites:

Trains are also available from Totton, Millbrook, Romsey, St Deny’s, Swaythling and Hedge End to Southampton.

By coach

There’s a coach station located in Southampton City centre which is served by National Express who offer services to London, Heathrow and Gatwick Airports, and across the country and Megabus operating services to the midlands and the north.

By air

Southampton Airport is situated just outside Southampton and offers flights to and from most UK and EU destinations. As well as taxis and buses, there’s also a train station (Southampton Airport Parkway) at the airport with direct trains to Southampton Central Train Station (see ‘by bus’ for details of connecting buses to University Hospital Southampton).

There’s also Bournemouth Airport situated in Hurn, just outside Bournemouth, where you can travel to most UK and EU destinations.
