Prof Hilal has worked as a consultant general surgeon for University Hospital Southampton since October 2006.
His experience includes three years as a surgical resident in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery (Italy), two years as a surgical registrar hepatobiliary-pancreatic surgery (UK), and a one year fellowship in hepatobiliary and transplant surgery in the UK.
Prof Hilal's achievements include development and expansion of new surgical techniques (laparoscopic pancreatic surgery and laparoscopic liver surgery) with the largest numbers in the UK, with excellent results and national and international recognition of our service.
He also has excellent results in liver and pancreatic surgery with very low mortality (0.6%) and morbidity rate (24%).
Prof Hilal manages significant academic activity in terms of publications, presentations, book chapters, and invitations as an international guest speaker to different conferences. He has initiated different research prospective studies and RCTs, and is an external examiner of scientific theses in national and international centres.
