Reject samples due to inappropriate tubes

We are observing a high number of reject samples of between 100 and 150 per day because specimens were collected into inappropriate tubes. This has the consequences of the inconvenience to patients of a recall and rebleed, but also a waste of resources. Attached is an updated table showing a list of commonly requested tests and the appropriate containers for these.

NT-Pro BNP was recently commissioned by primary care to help exclude the presence of heart failure. Samples as indicated in the table should be collected into a lithium heparin tube (green cap).

Do not hesitate to contact us on 023 8120 6427 should you have any queries. Working together, we hope to drastically reduce the number of these inappropriate samples.
