Our surgical spinal service offers a comprehensive emergency and elective service for adult and paediatric (children's) spinal conditions.
We provide a 24/7 on-call emergency service for all urgent and emergency spinal conditions from the Wessex region, and run outpatient clinics at Poole, Basingstoke, Andover, Winchester and the Isle of Wight.
All surgery is performed at Southampton General Hospital, and includes procedures for spinal infection, spinal tumours and spinal trauma. If you are an adult non-emergency patient, you will be admitted to the Wessex Neurological Centre and assessed before being admitted to a ward. The length of time you are in hospital depends on the exact nature of your surgery, but some procedures such as lumbar microdiscectomy and cervical discectomy are usually overnight stays.
