Apps to help your child
Description
Apps To Help Your Child The Oticon Companion app can be used with Oticon hearing aids and enables you or your child to adjust the hearing aid(s) and check battery status. Also, you can pair the aids with your phone using the app so that if your child loses a hearing aid while you are out with them, it will tell you on a map where they were last in contact with your phone and hopefully help you to locate them. The MyPhonakJunior app can be used with Phonak hearing aids and enables you or your child to adjust the hearing aid(s) and check battery status. Unfortunately, there is no ‘find your hearing aids’ feature. There are two options to choose from when you download the app – there is a more grown-up version for older children and teens without Leo the tiger. Talking and singing is a natural way to bond with your child and to develop their communication and this app uses music to help stimulate bonding, brain development, early communication and listening skills and early literacy skills with children with hearing loss. The app is for all early years and there are different options for babies, toddlers, and pre-schoolers. HearGlueEar is an app for children aged 2-6 who have hearing loss due to glue ear. When a child has hearing loss, there may be delays in their learning and development and the app helps children to develop ‘auditory processing’ and listening skills through specially designed songs, games, and audiobooks. It also provides useful information and resources for parents and guardians, including a basic hearing check to give you an idea of your child’s level of hearing. There is a separate hand out available to tell you about this app. The myHearingGuide app is for young people and adults with hearing loss. It is made by a cochlear implant company and has a leaning towards those who could be considering cochlear implants, although can be helpful for those for whom hearing aids are more suitable. It helps the user to explore their hearing loss and best possible solutions as well as set goals, track progress and connect them to resources and information. Other Sources of Help Let’s Listen and Talk is an in-depth online programme designed by experts at the Elizabeth Foundation to help deaf babies, toddlers and pre-school children to develop communication, speech and language. It was made free during the pandemic and is still free currently (Aug 23). www.letslistenandtalk.org Chloe and Sophie’s Special ear fund is a charity that aims to ‘brighten the lives of deaf children’ in Hampshire, Surrey and Berkshire. Their main objectives are to raise deaf awareness, enhance the sound acoustics in classrooms and school halls and provide resources and equipment to deaf children to support their emotional wellbeing. Grants can be applied for on their website at www.cssef.org.uk
