Five representatives have been appointed to University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust’s Council of Governors following elections in one constituency and two staff groups.
In the New Forest, Eastleigh and Test Valley constituency, nominations were received from Heather Parsons, Bryan Bird and Andrew Grapes, with Ms Parsons re-elected for a second term and Mr Bird and Mr Grapes appointed unopposed.
In the staff categories, consultant urological surgeon Brian Birch was re-elected as the representative for medical and dental staff, with Annette Purkis taking the seat for other clinical staff.
All five will take up their posts from 1 October 2014.
The Council of Governors consists of 23 governors who gather the views of the hospital trust’s 20,000 members and give them a voice at the highest level of the organisation. These representatives have certain roles and responsibilities and must carry out statutory duties.
The Trust currently has four vacant seats – three in the Rest of England and Wales constituency and one in the New Forest, Eastleigh and Test Valley – to be contested in an election at a later date.
