I am writing to let you know that Fiona Dalton, the UHS chief executive, will be leaving the trust having accepted an invitation to become the chief executive officer of Providence Healthcare in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
I know that all at UHS recognise what a fantastic job Fiona has done since returning here in 2013. The board will be extremely sorry to see her depart but recognises the personal opportunity for Fiona provided by both Providence Healthcare and its location. She will leave UHS with both our gratitude and good wishes.
There will obviously be several opportunities to say farewell to her before she departs which is expected to be at the end of March 2018. I am delighted that David French, chief financial officer, has agreed to act thereafter as interim chief executive until a substantive appointment is made which should be no later than the summer. I am certain that he will provide terrific leadership and I know that you will give him the same complete support as you have always given Fiona.
The process of identifying a permanent replacement as chief executive will start early in the New Year. Given the current excellent reputation of UHS, in no small part due to Fiona’s contribution, I have no doubt that UHS will be successful in recruiting an outstanding new chief executive with the energy and enthusiasm to build on her legacy.
