About Southampton Academy of Research
Southampton Academy of Research (SoAR) works to ensure the education, training and career development of Southampton's research workforce.
Our aim is to nurture the potential of our research workforce to drive the next generation of clinical discoveries, enabling them to advance knowledge and improve healthcare.
Enabling careers in research
We seek to facilitate growth in our thriving clinical research community, enabling staff to build and sustain a research-related career.
Whether you are a doctor, nurse, midwife, pharmacist, allied health professional or research scientist, University Hospital Southampton (UHS) together with University of Southampton (UoS) offer a wide range of opportunities to get involved in research.
We coordinate education and career development activities and oversee the various clinical academic training schemes across medical and health professions.
We are responsible for overseeing the partnership's education, training and development activities, managed on a daily basis by UHS and UoS colleagues in collaboration with Wessex Clinical Research Network and Health Education Wessex.
The Academy is the centralised pan-professional training hub and main point of contact for health professionals, research scientists and clinical research staff. It provides information and advice on research-related careers, training, funding and mentorship.
The Academy’s activities and priorities are guided by our Steering Committee, which meets three to four times each year and has representation from:
