Dr Renton joined the Trust in September 2019 as a consultant in paediatric palliative medicine. Working alongside her colleague, she is involved in the ongoing development of a paediatric palliative care service across the region.
Her role is a joint post working at University Hospital Southampton and Naomi House Children’s Hospice. She is involved in supporting patients with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions who require specialist palliative care input.
Her role involves supporting patients, families and professionals in decision making and care planning. She focuses on improving quality of life for the child or young person and supporting their family members and carers. This includes the management of distressing symptoms, signposting to respite care and other services, and support with death through to bereavement.
Awards and prizes
Dr Renton has completed an MSc in child health (based on research in paediatric palliative care). She has published findings of her MSc looking at factors influencing place of death. She has an interest in education and has also published an evaluation following her involvement in designing and running paediatric palliative care simulation courses.
She has presented both nationally and internationally on various research projects. She is keen to continue to work closely with academic researchers (both at University of Southampton and further afield) to improve the evidence base for paediatric palliative medicine.
