Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Centre

COVID-19 updated information

The Macmillan Centre is open, however, due to limited space and a smaller team we are currently restricting numbers of visitors to maintain appropriate social distancing and infection control measures.

Our remote video and telephone support sessions will remain the main channels for delivering our service at this time, however, we are thrilled to see patients in person again after our successful reopening in September.

Opening hours are Monday to Friday between 10am and 4pm for the following (also available via telephone or video):

  • Hampshire Macmillan Citizens Advice
  • Counselling
  • Hypnotherapy
  • Wig service (also available on wards)
  • Support and information
  • Complementary therapies

Just call or email to arrange to see us in person and for more information on services available via video or telephone:

You are important to us, if we are unable to take your call then please leave a message and we will respond the same day or, at the very latest, the next working day (we check our phone and email messages regularly).

We are here for you and your family to listen, provide information and offer support so please do get in touch.

The very best of wishes to you in the meantime.

Andrea Lodge, centre manager

Please visit our health and wellbeing page where we are adding resources and information to help you and your family.

Carers virtual support group

This monthly group provides a space for family members and loved ones of people who have had a cancer diagnosis to meet and talk to others who may be dealing with similar concerns and circumstances.

Group members decide what they would like to talk about at each meeting. At times we may explore painful issues, learn relaxation techniques, share ways to cope - but there is also a lot of laughter!

The group meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month, from 11am to 12pm, starting Wednesday, 27 January 2021.

To book, or if you have a question, please phone the centre on 023 8120 6037 or email MacmillanCentre@uhs.nhs.uk.

After booking you will receive an invite by email to join the group.

Our services during COVID-19

We are still providing the following services (available in person or via video and telephone):

Counselling

The Macmillan Centre team are providing counselling to patients and their families (both new and those already using the service) by telephone or video during the closure. Please call 023 8120 6037 for more information to request this service.

Wig service

The Macmillan Centre team continue to offer the wig service via zoom to patients who will experience hair loss due to cancer treatment. Please call 023 8120 6037 for more information.

Benefits and financial advice

For benefits advice and financial support, please phone Hampshire Macmillan CAB on 034 4847 7727. They are offering extended phone support between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays). Patients can also email macmillan.cahampshire@cabnet.org.uk.

You will be able to speak to a caseworker, who will either be able to help straight away or refer you to another caseworker who is not manning the phone line. There is an answer machine for out of hours or if the lines are busy.

Hypnotherapy sessions

Hypnotherapy sessions are available via video for patients before, during and anytime following cancer treatments. Hypnotherapy can help reduce stress, anxiety, phobias and improve quality of sleep and help prepare for investigations and treatments.

Complementary therapies

We are able to provide video acupressure, self-hand and feet reflexology and Reiki on a one-to-one basis, as well as small group relaxation yoga. These can help with many aspects of your life such as reducing stress, releasing anxiety, improving sleep and improving side effects of your cancer treatment.

Fatigue management

Fatigue management sessions (virtual) are available for patients who have or have had cancer, during or after cancer treatment. Please see the flyer for more information or call  07917 643206
